Just as an FYI…I will be appearing on the Fox 13 Morning Show sometime during the 8am hour and on the ABC24 11am news promoting MidSouthCon.  Just look for the silent guy with the big yellow head :).

A quick reminder: If there are any Makers that are going to MidSouthCon and haven’t registered yet, tomorrow is the last day to get a discounted rate.  At midnight the price goes up $5 to the at-the-door price of $45 for the weekend.

Woot!  The paperwork has officially come back.  We are now an official non profit organization within the State of Tennessee.  Keep in mind this is only within the Tennessee.  We have not yet filed for 501(c)3 status.

That being said.  Our next steps will be to file with the IRS for a tax ID so that we can make tax free purchases. Once we have all of that in place, and if the group is continuing to grow and do well, we’ll look into the becoming a national non profit.  From what I’ve been told that costs somewhere around $750.  So that will likely want to wait until we are a little more established.  If anyone knows of any good tax advice for such things, or anything else financially related to non profits, feel free to comment on it.

Well it has finally happened.  We are proud to announce a new logo brought to you by our very on JWoodJr.  Hopefully this will allow us to move forward a little more in getting our name out there.  We now have something to put up on Hackerspaces.org and up on Nathaner’s Hackerspace App.  More info should be coming soon on regular meetings, and about how we can get our name out there.

In case you haven’t noticed the links at the top, our wiki and forum both are now listed up there.  To top things off they work too!

Currently I have been primarily focused on the wiki.  The main goal of it is to document any and all projects that we have in the organization, individual or group.  Since we are built around open source components and basing a lot of projects off of info shared by others, it’s only fair that we do the same.  This is not to say that we won’t necessarily patent any of our projects, but the ones that aren’t and maybe even some of the ones that are will be shared on there.

As part of trying to get all of this up and going, I have started work towards putting one of my personal projects up.  My project is currently not finished, but I do have various components of the overall project that have been completed.  So that is why, the very first article on our wiki is the LCD article.  So go check it out, tell what you think, and look back for more.
