March 5th Midsouth Makers Meeting.

Pictures have been uploaded from the March 5th Meeting. We had a great time and met some new friends from the local 2600 group. We had a few different projects shown off at this meeting including how to modify a cheap ink pen to write like an expensive writing instrument, Jim’s Arduino kit, Daniel’s scarf prototype and a handmade bracelet. We love hearing about any DIY projects or craft projects! Feel free to send us information about your project and we’ll feature it here on the Hackerspace Blog.

Just as an FYI…I will be appearing on the Fox 13 Morning Show sometime during the 8am hour and on the ABC24 11am news promoting MidSouthCon.  Just look for the silent guy with the big yellow head :).

You got it, we have our very own Zombie Walk here in Memphis.  Who woulda thought that we would actually have something cool.  For those of you who aren’t into the geeky aspect of zombies, I do seriously apologize for the fun that you will miss out on.  Any who, this event has gone on since spring of 2007 and is back again for its fourth run.  Maybe this will be a good chance for us to get out there, have some fun, and put ourselves in a visible light while doing so.

The general idea is this.  You dress up like a zombie.  You meet a Beale St. dressed like said zombie.  When the walk begins, you “travel” (not exactly walk) down a predetermined path “attacking” the people that are clearly marked as “innocent bystanders.”  Rinse, eat brains, repeat.  Sounds like fun right?  Well then let’s make sure that some of us are there.  Hope there are plenty available to attend, and I hope everyone has a blast being slightly straaaaaaaaaaange.

I was just informed that we WILL have a fan table set aside for us at MidSouthCon, which will take place from March 12th to the 14th at the Whispering Woods Conference Center in Olive Branch, MS (some of you old-timers may remember it better as the Holiday Inn Executive Conference center).

While the table is free, anyone that mans it will need to pay for admission to the convention.  Currently it is $40 for the entire weekend, and will go up to $45 in a week, which is also the at-the-door price.  I will create a wiki page for discussing what we might need for it or can do at the table.

It looks like things are certainly moving fast.  We have narrowed down our schedule on when to meet with Nathan from Pumping Station: One to hopefully this Sunday evening after 5 PM.  So far it looks like we have 5 people hoping to be there from the group.  Everyone seems to be getting really excited and pumped up about this.  We certainly have been given a very good opportunity here so if you think you might be able to make it then please do!
